Spent a few days earlier this week in Germany catching up with an old friend I met in Japan. We went to Christmas markets in Berlin, Weimar, and Erfurt, trudged through the snow and drank a lot of glühwein. It was a great time.

A great lady named Lovie died last week. My brother and I called her "MawMaw". She helped raise numerous family members from her own children, step-children, and grandchildren. They were each better for it.

She was 92, lived a strong life and will be missed by many.

Her funeral is today in Charleston, West Virginia. I am saddened to not be with the rest of my family to remember her greatness and the countless ways she helped to shape us. But I am comforted in the knowledge that I can take the memories of our time together anywhere I may be.

Just getting back into the flow of going to lectures and doing readings. You might assume that someone who would choose to extend their education to graduate studies would be a good student. 

I enjoy not matching people's expectations.

The students in my program at the LSE, ADMIS (Analysis Design & Management of Information Systems) is very diverse. Of the 75 students enrolled 20 individual countries are represented. Various backgrounds as well, non-technical or even completely different fields of study. Makes for interesting conversation and class discussions.

I am taking three courses this term. A Global Strategy and IS Management course, IS Development, and a more theoretical course covering Concepts of Innovation and IS. The first two I have a full understanding of where they are going while I think I'll need a couple more weeks to get a complete grasp on the theory course as it's a subject I don't have experience with.

Next term should be more interesting as we get a selection of courses to choose from.

I'll try to post interesting things in the future. I write this post just so I wouldn't pass that 'silent for one month' threshold after which I usually give up blogging.

The first two days back in London were lovely, mostly sunny and comfortable (it's raining today though) so I did a lot of walking. The path from my housing to the LSE campus is on the long side but as it's thru the City it includes many nice sites - the Bank of England and St. Paul's are all on the way.

I've just being doing chores like buying things for my little studio and registering so far.

This place's reputation is obviously overblown.

 

A quick gadget recommendation - I finally picked up a Bluetooth headset before I left. I took a gamble and purchased a refurbished pair of Sennheisers because I wanted something would sound decent but I wasn't willing to pay for it. It's great to lose the wires, though be ready for some hiccups in the connection when walking in crowds, no doubt due to interference with the countless other 2.4 Ghz Bluetooth waves in the air. Oh and users of Apple products should be aware that iOS 4.1 that was just released finally added the AVRCP profile so you can change tracks and so forth with the headset controls.

I leave for London and my graduate studies at the London School of Economics on Monday September 20, arriving early Tuesday morning. I am anxious to return to London and higher education. I'll be living in E1 and can't wait to explore the area.
